Product Owner

Primary function of the role: 

The Product Owner takes part in overseeing the development of products from start to finish to ensure they meet the clients’ needs and preferences. Their main duties include helping to determine the overall vision of products, managing various backlog items, and deciding which features each product will have according to clients’ preferences.

 

They are responsible for incorporating feature requests, grooming, and prioritizing backlog, and developing user stories and acceptance criteria. They play a crucial role in planning releases, coordinating sprints, and ensuring products align with the company’s vision.

 

The Product Owner’s main responsibility is to help manage the product development process. They gather feature requests, schedule releases, and coordinate sprints. They work closely with cross-functional teams, identify user needs, and ensure the product meets customer expectations. Additionally, they refine the agile methodology based on feedback, track industry trends, and address production issues during sprints.

 

The Product Owner is expected to:

  • Help define the product strategy and roadmap with VP of Product.
  • Assist with defining a Product Roadmap and convert that into actionable deliverables through detailed Epics & Stories.
  • Work with the Development Management team to define & plan releases to deliver on roadmap & client projects.
  • Groom stories & assist the development team to plan & deliver on their stories.
  • Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities.
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition.
  • Assist to develop the core positioning and messaging for the product.
  • Perform product demos to customers.
  • Engage with Sales to ensure tooling, shortcomings and features to assist with Sale.
  • Act as a leader within the company.

 

The Product Owner will be required to travel to the various Genasys offices and the offices of our clients. This will involve national and international travel.

 

Qualifications and experience required: 

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification or 5 years’ experience in a Product Owner or similar role.
  • Scrum Alliance certified or Product Owner Certification Preferred (or studying towards).
  • At least two years’ experience in agile software development methodologies.
  • At least two years’ experience in software requirements analysis.
  • At least two years’ experience in enterprise software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Technical background, with experience with Software Specifications, Business Analysis and Software Development.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows, web, and mobile technologies.
  • Demonstrated success defining, launching and maintaining excellent products.
  • Extensive product and market knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance product features and terms.
  • Working knowledge of insurance industry, regulation, and business models.
