Group Chief Financial Officer

About the role:

The Group Chief Financial Officer is a strategically focused position that will provide strategic leadership to the business. In this role you will serve as the financial gatekeeper for the company, fulfilling traditional stewardship responsibilities relating to governance, compliance and control, and business ethics.

The role furthermore serves as a trusted business value creation partner to the Group-CEO and the Executive Leadership team, intimately involved in the overall corporate strategy, and one of the key drivers of the expansion of the company as it moves towards larger-scale growth.


Reporting structure:

The Finance team is comprised of 5 team members based in South Africa, which include a CFO (CA), a Financial Controller (CA), a Financial Manager (CA), a Financial Systems and Data Analyst and a Financial Accountant. Legal support is outsourced to reputable, trusted service providers.


Key responsibilities of the role:
  • Key driver in the ongoing strategic, operational, and financial planning and resource allocation process.
  • Strategic input into the identification, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of key value drivers and metrics.
  • Identification of bottlenecks and impediments to growth, and suitable corrective measures that can be implemented to overcome them.
  • Building and leading a diverse team at a high-growth or growth-stage digital company.
  • Alignment of financial execution with short and long-term strategic, operational, and financial plans.
  • Overall management of the Financial Division of the business.
  • Holistic oversight of the financial strategy, financial policies, processes, practices, administration, systems, governance, and potential risks.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company’s overall mission and objectives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork across the various business units to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives that drive growth and profitability.


About you:

Our ideal candidate will have the following experience skills:

  • Chartered accountant
  • Deep understanding of the Insurance industry.
  • Experience as CFO or similar senior leadership role in an international business.
  • Previous experience leading start-up or scale-up businesses in a senior, strategic financial role.
  • Extensive managerial experience in remote teams and well-developed management skills – both principles and people.
  • Highly analytical, with excellent critical thinking skills
  • Effective and focused, with inspirational leadership skills
  • Sound administrative and reporting skills.
  • Be resilient, tenacious, and adaptable.
  • Strategically focused with a growth-focused mindset
  • Previous experience in the Insurtech industry will serve as an advantage
